Nagpur’s man-animal conflict continues to rise as two recent leopard sightings have caused fear among locals.
On Monday, a team from the Transit Treatment Centre (TTC) rushed to Pardi after residents reported seeing a leopard near an under-construction road during the day. A video circulating on social media showed commuters suddenly spotting the animal under a nullah, drawing a crowd before the leopard eventually fled.
This is the second such incident in a few days, following the rescue of another leopard from a house in Bhandewadi recently.
“We received a call about the leopard sighting in Pardi, but by the time our team reached, the animal had disappeared,” said Kundan Hate, In-charge of TTC, Seminary Hills. He added that patrolling would continue throughout the day and night, and urged residents to avoid going out alone after dark.
In another incident, people in Shankarpur near Chinchbhuvan have been spotting a leopard repeatedly for over a week. Residents say the animal has been roaming near Khapri Punarvasan Colony and have informed the Forest Department, but no action has been taken yet.
Forest officials said teams are patrolling the area daily but have not found any fresh signs of the leopard. They have advised residents to remain cautious, especially after sunset.
