New Security Directives Ordered by the Speaker
- No visitor to enter without a valid pass
- Security staff empowered to deny entry, even if pressured by MLAs
- Mandatory maintenance of detailed visitor logs with identity verification
The Winter Session erupted on Tuesday after Speaker Rahul Narwekar issued a blistering reprimand to MLAs for smuggling unauthorized individuals into the high-security Assembly complex — some even intimidating security personnel to gain entry without passes.
A visibly furious Narwekar told the House he had verified multiple incidents with senior Legislature Secretariat officials. “Many MLAs brought people inside by misusing passes, and shockingly, some forced their way through without any passes at all,” he said, calling it a grave breach of security and an insult to the dignity of the Assembly.
He said he refrained from naming the offenders — “but only this once.”
“Don’t test my patience. If this happens again, I will publicly name you in the Assembly. I will not hesitate,” he warned, sending shockwaves across both treasury and opposition benches.
According to officials, certain MLAs pressured, threatened and overruled guards, turning the Assembly’s restricted zones into virtual rally grounds. Some security personnel reported being humiliated and left powerless in the face of political intimidation.
Narwekar reminded the House that the Assembly is “a constitutional temple, not a public gathering space,” and demanded full respect for institutional boundaries. His stern message left several MLAs pledging cooperation, while others remained notably silent.
Closing his address, the Speaker issued a final, uncompromising warning:
“Next time, there will be no silence and no sympathy. I will name you — and action will follow.
