Alertness and timely intervention prevented a serious incident after a venomous snake was found inside a moving two-wheeler on Monday evening. The incident took place around 6.15 pm on December 15, 2025, when Mohammad Nasir Sheikh, a resident of Taj Nagar, was travelling on his Activa scooter (MH-49 BJ 8169) towards Tukdoji Putla.
During the ride, Sheikh noticed a snake emerging from the scooter’s headlight area. He immediately stopped the vehicle on the roadside and discovered that the reptile had moved close to the handle. Sensing the danger, he promptly informed Anand Shelke of the Wildlife Welfare Society.
Following the alert, snake rescuer Aditya Shastrakar was rushed to the spot. The reptile was identified as a saw-scaled viper, locally known as Furse, one of the four highly venomous snake species found in the region. The rescue operation drew attention as Shastrakar carefully dismantled parts of the scooter and safely extracted the snake, bringing relief to the rider and bystanders. The snake was later released into a nearby forest.
Nitish Bhandakkar, Secretary of the Wildlife Welfare Society, said the saw-scaled viper belongs to the viper family and possesses hemotoxic venom, which can prove fatal if medical treatment is delayed. He noted that during winter, snakes often seek warmth and may enter parked vehicles. Citizens have been advised to inspect their vehicles before use and avoid parking near garbage dumps or isolated areas to prevent such incidents.
