Nagpur: Acting on a tip-off, the Maharashtra State Bureau of Textbook Production and Curriculum Research, popularly known as Balbharati, conducted a raid at a printing press in Nagpur on Wednesday and uncovered a large number of textbooks allegedly printed illegally, officials said.
The inspection was carried out at Pratibha Printing Press located in the Digdoh area of Hingna MIDC, where duplicate Balbharati textbooks were found being printed. A complaint is being lodged in connection with the case.
Balbharati’s production officer Rajesh Potdukhe said the raid followed specific information about unauthorised printing activity. “Following a tip-off about duplicate books being printed at the press, we conducted an inspection and found Balbharati textbooks being printed illegally,” he told reporters.
According to Potdukhe, around 10,000 to 20,000 such textbooks were found at the site. However, Dilip Witkar, Balbharati’s sales store manager in Nagpur, estimated the number of illegally printed books to be between 20,000 and 30,000.
Officials said the inspection is underway and further action will be taken after the complaint is formally registered.
Balbharati, an autonomous body of the Maharashtra government, is the institution responsible for creating, developing, and publishing all textbooks and educational material for Maharashtra’s state board schools from Classes 1 to 12, serving Marathi, English, Hindi, and Urdu mediums.
