Nagpur: Crime Branch Unit No. 1 of the Nagpur City Police have arrested a teenage habitual offender in connection with a two-wheeler theft reported from the Beltarodi area, with investigators revealing that the accused resorted to thefts to finance his lifestyle.
The incident occurred between July 1 and the early hours of July 2, 2025, when Arun Vithobaji Thombre (56), a resident of Kachore Patil Nagar, had parked his Hero Honda Splendor motorcycle (MH-31 DL 5052), valued at around Rs 15,000, outside his residence after locking it. The vehicle was stolen during the night.
Following Thombre’s complaint, Beltarodi police registered a case under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against an unknown person. A parallel probe by Crime Branch Unit No. 1 involved technical surveillance and intelligence-based inputs.
During patrolling, the crime branch team intercepted a suspicious motorcycle without a registration number plate. The rider was detained and identified as Tushar Rajesh Raut (19), a resident of Shrikrupa Nagar on Ghogli–Besa Road. During questioning, the teenager admitted to stealing the motorcycle along with an associate, identified as Raj Kaushik.
Police said Raut is a habitual offender and had allegedly been involved in multiple vehicle thefts to meet personal expenses and maintain his lifestyle. The stolen motorcycle was recovered from his possession and seized as evidence.
The accused was subsequently handed over to Beltarodi police along with the recovered vehicle for further legal action. Police are continuing their investigation to trace the absconding co-accused and to verify the teenager’s possible involvement in other theft cases.
The successful operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, Additional Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Rahul Maknikar, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Abhijeet Patil. The action was executed by Police Inspector Dnyaneshwar Bhedodkar and his team from Crime Branch Unit No. 1.
