Ahead of the upcoming Nagpur Municipal Corporation elections, the State Election Commission of Maharashtra has directed the civic administration to set up adequate flying squads to ensure strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct and the smooth conduct of polling.
The directions were issued by State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare during a video conference with municipal commissioners of 29 municipal corporations across the State. The meeting was also attended by Commission Secretary Suresh Kakani and senior officials, with special focus on preparations in Nagpur Municipal Corporation, where polling is due in the coming weeks.
Waghmare instructed that flying squads be deployed in sufficient numbers across Nagpur, with adequate manpower and close coordination with the police to maintain law and order. He also directed that offices of Election Decision Officers be fully equipped with ward maps, reservation details, nomination and affidavit formats, and necessary staff.
Emphasising voter convenience, the Commissioner said all polling stations must have basic facilities and suggested setting up model polling stations to encourage turnout.
Kakani, in his presentation, stressed strict adherence to amended municipal election rules regarding the order of candidates’ names and compliance with the Commission’s May 5, 2025 order on election symbols, underlining the need for early and meticulous planning to ensure free and fair polls.
