The municipal council and nagar panchayat election results across Vidarbha have significantly reshaped the region’s political landscape, throwing up clear winners and notable losers among senior leaders. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Minister of State Ashish Jaiswal, BJP MLA Dr. Parinay Fuke, and Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar successfully defended their political strongholds. In contrast, Minister of State Pankaj Bhoyer, former minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, and Congress leader Sunil Kedar suffered major reverses. Voters also rejected the influence of NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Praful Patel and Congress leader Nana Patole in their own districts.
In Nagpur district, Bawankule emerged as the standout performer, with the BJP winning 22 of 27 municipal councils and nagar panchayats. Despite his personal defeat in the last Assembly election in Kamptee, Bawankule ensured BJP victories in all seven local bodies within his constituency, a success attributed to early and intensive campaigning.
Minister of State Ashish Jaiswal delivered another strong showing by reclaiming Ramtek and Parseoni, while Congress leader Sunil Kedar faced a near rout, with the party winning only Mohpa and failing to secure a single councillor in Saoner. BJP MLA Ashish Deshmukh led BJP victories in Saoner, Kalmeshwar and Khapa, further weakening Congress’ position.
In Bhandara, Dr. Parinay Fuke retained his dominance, while Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLA Narendra Bhondekar failed to secure a win even for his wife. In Chandrapur, Wadettiwar guided Congress to victory in seven of 11 councils, though Sudhir Mungantiwar’s BJP lost Ballarpur and Mul. In Wardha, Pankaj Bhoyer lost Wardha and Deoli, retaining only Hinganghat, Arvi and Sindi.
Overall, the verdict has strengthened some leaders while forcing others into political introspection across Vidarbha.
