The Nagpur unit of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR against Sandeep Singh, an Area Sales Manager with Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), and his wife Shweta Singh in a disproportionate assets case, sending ripples through WCL circles.According to the CBI, the couple allegedly accumulated assets worth ₹45.23 lakh more than their known sources of income during the period from August 1, 2023, to August 31, 2025.
Sandeep Singh is a resident of Pioneer Residency in KT Nagar on Katol Road.CBI officials examined the couple’s income, expenditure and assets during the scrutiny period. Singh began his career as a Management Trainee (Sales and Marketing) with Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) in Dhanbad and was transferred to WCL on November 8, 2024. He is currently posted as Senior Sales Manager.
The investigation revealed that the couple earned a total income of ₹1.27 crore from known sources during the period. At the start of the check period on August 1, 2023, their total assets were valued at ₹21.62 lakh, which rose to ₹2.87 crore by August 31, 2025. Their total expenditure during this time was estimated at ₹48 lakh.Based on calculations, the couple’s probable savings should have been around ₹79.98 lakh.
However, the CBI found that they acquired assets worth ₹1.25 crore during the same period, resulting in alleged disproportionate assets of ₹45.23 lakh. The couple reportedly failed to offer a satisfactory explanation for the excess assets.
The probe also indicated that Shweta Singh allegedly assisted her husband in acquiring the assets, with several properties purchased jointly. On the basis of these findings, the CBI has registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).
The investigation is being carried out by Deputy Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar under the supervision of CBI Superintendent Rishikesh Sonawane.
