With the aviation sector expanding rapidly in Vidarbha due to MIHAN and other industrial projects, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) will launch a diploma course in Airline Management from the 2026-27 academic session. The university will also introduce six new degree and certificate programmes.
The new courses were approved at a recent Senate meeting. Senate member Sunil Phudke highlighted that enrolment in traditional courses like BA and BCom is declining because of limited job opportunities, and suggested introducing more employment-oriented programmes such as Airline Management and Travel & Tourism.
Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Dr Shyam Koreti shared details of the proposed courses. Vice-Chancellor Dr Manali Kshirsagar said RTMNU is fully prepared to roll out job-focused diploma, certificate and degree programmes, adding that more career-oriented courses will be introduced after assessing national job market needs.
New courses proposed
- One-year Diploma in Corporate Management
- BA in Travel and Tourism (three to four years)
- Bachelor of Social Work (three to four years)
- Two international certificate courses under the History Department, in collaboration with the International Council for Cultural Studies, covering Ancient Civilisations of South Africa and Armenia, and History and Culture of the Armenian Language
Airline Management diploma
Dr Koreti said the Airline Management course will be a one-year, professional and industry-oriented programme linked to the aviation sector. It will train students in airline operations, airport management, customer service and aviation hospitality.
The course will have a total duration of 810 hours, including 450 hours of theory, 120 hours of practical training and 240 hours of compulsory internship. It will carry 42 credits and admit 40 students per batch. The programme aims to prepare students for careers in airlines, airports, ground handling agencies and related aviation services.
Dr Koreti also said proposals for two more courses — BA in Applied Sociology and MA in Anthropology — have been sent to the Board of Studies for approval.
