The excise department has formed special squads to carry out surprise inspections of rooftop restaurants.
Action will be taken against any establishment found serving liquor in violation of rules. For this purpose, four inspection teams have been constituted to conduct continuous checking drives.While officials say the move is part of routine inspections, there is talk that some rooftop restaurant operators have already been warned by the authorities.
Officials clarified that even restaurants holding valid liquor licences must strictly follow all terms and conditions, failing which action will be taken.Meanwhile, the department has received several complaints about liquor being served without licences at rooftop restaurants and hotels.
Inspection teams have been asked to verify such complaints, and cases will be registered against operators if liquor is found being served without a valid licence.
