Acting on the directions of the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal has instructed all police station in-charges to strictly enforce action against the use and sale of nylon manja. As per the court order, offenders will face a fine of Rs 50,000 for using nylon manja and Rs 2.5 lakh for selling it, with penalties to be imposed through the courts.
In a circular issued to all police units, the CP directed that cases be registered under Section 15 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986, and Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against violators. The crackdown aims to curb the growing threat posed by nylon manja, which endangers birds, animals, two-wheeler riders and pedestrians.Dr Singal has also ordered strict surveillance of courier companies and distribution centres associated with e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart and Amazon.
Police have been instructed to regularly inspect these facilities to ensure nylon manja is neither stored, transported nor sold through online channels.Along with enforcement, the CP emphasised the importance of public awareness.
Police stations have been directed to educate citizens about the dangers of nylon manja, stressing that it is not only illegal but also a serious threat to public safety and wildlife.
