A shocking incident has come to light from Nagpur’s Narsala area under the jurisdiction of Hudkeshwar police station, where an eight-month-old girl was allegedly killed by an unidentified wild animal in the early hours of Saturday. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves across the city and triggered panic among residents of the locality.
The incident occurred around 2 am near a cremation ground in Narsala. The victim, identified as Anushka Ravi Meda, was sleeping beside her mother inside a makeshift hut when the animal reportedly entered and dragged the infant away. Anushka’s family, migrant labourers originally from Selmiya in Madhya Pradesh, had been residing in the area for work.
When the family realised the child was missing, they immediately began searching the surroundings. The infant’s body was later found near a nearby drain. The condition of the body was gruesome, with severe injuries indicating that the animal had mauled the child, devouring her chest and both arms.
The brutal nature of the incident has sparked fear and outrage in the area. Although the animal responsible has not yet been identified, suspicion has fallen on a leopard, as incidents of leopard movement have been reported on the outskirts of Nagpur over the past month. However, officials have not ruled out the possibility of an attack by stray dogs.
Hudkeshwar police have registered a case of accidental death and informed the forest department. Forest officials have launched an investigation and are expected to step up patrolling and surveillance in the area. The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of residents living in vulnerable settlements and the preparedness of civic and forest authorities to prevent such tragedies.
