The State Election Commission has issued important clarifications for candidates contesting the upcoming Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections in 2026.
As per the latest guidelines, candidates are no longer required to submit affidavits related to criminal background, assets, liabilities or the number of children on expensive stamp paper. These declarations, along with expenditure affidavits, can now be filed on plain paper, provided they are duly verified and attested before the competent authority.
Additionally, since ward names have not been officially assigned in the current NMC structure, candidates have been instructed to mention “Not Applicable” in the “Ward Name (if any)” column of their nomination forms.
The clarifications, issued in line with the Commission’s 2015 orders, are aimed at simplifying the nomination process and reducing the administrative burden on candidates.
