As Nagpur prepares to usher in the New Year, celebrations across clubs and party venues are set to unfold under strict security arrangements, with the cost of deploying private bouncers witnessing a sharp rise. In the aftermath of recent violent incidents at city nightspots, organisers are now spending nearly double on security personnel to ensure compliance and prevent any untoward incidents on December 31.
Event venues that earlier paid between ₹1,000 and ₹1,200 per bouncer per day are now shelling out as much as ₹2,000. The increase follows heightened concerns after a fatal clash during a Christmas party at a club on Wardha Road, where two youths lost their lives after violence erupted between rival groups. A subsequent police inquiry reportedly exposed multiple safety violations at the establishment, leading to its temporary closure.
Adding to the unease within the nightlife circuit, another Christmas party at a Civil Lines club saw a youth injured in a late-night assault involving a liquor glass. The incidents have sent a strong signal across the hospitality industry, prompting club owners and event organisers to reassess their preparedness ahead of New Year’s Eve.
Industry experts say demand for trained bouncers has surged in recent days, with venues insisting on higher security deployment, strict frisking at entry points and tighter crowd control measures. Organisers are willing to absorb the higher costs, viewing enhanced security as essential to avoid police action and business disruptions.
With police expected to closely monitor late-night parties and club operations, Nagpur’s New Year’s Eve celebrations are likely to be defined by caution and vigilance, marking a noticeable shift in the city’s nightlife culture toward prioritising safety over spectacle.
