With the objective of increasing active citizen participation in the democratic process, Sheel Kala Sagar, Nagpur, conducted a voter awareness campaign through street plays in various parts of the city. The initiative received an enthusiastic response from the public.
The street plays were staged at Gokulpet Labour Thiyya, Hilltop Ambazari, Burdi Anand Nagar, Cotton Market, and the Ganeshpeth Bus Stand area. Through these performances, citizens were effectively sensitized about the importance of voting, their responsibility in a democracy, and why voting is essential for the development of Nagpur.
Under the leadership of Yogesh Raut, head of Sheel Kala Sagar, the street plays were performed by Aruna Chaudhari, Renu Das, Ashok Vachnekar, Usha Vachnekar, Ajay Khobragade, Paras Phule, Pratik Satpute, Vedant Mahajan, Vishakha Salve, and Govind Chutel. Active in the cultural field for the past 22 years, Sheel Kala Sagar has been working to spread awareness about various government schemes in rural areas through street plays and has consistently participated in government-organized theatre competitions.
Through this initiative, citizens were appealed to step out in large numbers and cast their votes in record proportions. The artists urged voters to exercise their democratic right to elect an administration committed to the development of Nagpur.
