Exit polls for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections have projected a clear advantage for the Mahayuti alliance, with survey agencies predicting a comfortable victory for the BJP–Shiv Sena (Shinde faction)–NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) combine.
According to the Saam TV exit poll, the Mahayuti is expected to win 99 of the 151 seats in the civic body. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is projected to emerge as the single largest party with 91 seats, though this marks a decline of 13 seats compared to the 2017 civic elections.
Despite lower-than-expected voter turnout dampening BJP’s hopes of a bigger tally, the exit poll findings have boosted the morale of party leaders and cadre.
Seat Projection (Exit Poll – Saam TV)
- BJP: 91
- Shiv Sena (Shinde faction): 5
- NCP (Ajit Pawar faction): 3
- Shiv Sena (UBT): 3
- Congress (INC): 40
- NCP (Sharad Pawar faction): 3
- Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS): 1
- Others: 5
Congress Emerges as Major Gainer
The Congress is projected to be the biggest gainer in the city, with the party likely to win 40 seats, an increase of 11 seats from the previous election.
In the 2017 civic polls, the Shiv Sena was a united party and managed to win only two seats in Nagpur. This time, exit polls suggest the Shinde faction may secure five seats, while the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction is expected to win three seats.
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which won one seat in the previous election, is unlikely to open its account this time, according to exit poll projections. The MNS is expected to win one seat, while the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) may secure three seats. Five seats are projected to go to other parties and independents.
