SAMMAN – Voices, Rights & Realities of the Transgender Community, a meaningful cultural presentation and panel discussion, was successfully held on 16th January at Sai Sabagruh, Nagpur. The programme aimed to create awareness, promote inclusion, and sensitise society towards the rights, dignity, and lived experiences of the transgender community.
The event was organised by Jhankar Mahila Mandal and Sarathi Trust, and co-organised by UWAN and LAD College for Women. SAMMAN brought together educators, psychologists, social workers, representatives from the transgender community, and members of civil society on one platform for an open and empathetic dialogue.
Renowned Gourmet Chef Shri Vishnu Manohar graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while the programme was presided over by Smt. Abha Dwivedi, President, Jhankar Mahila Mandal, whose vision and initiative led to the conceptualisation of SAMMAN and Smt Tanuja Phale, Programme Officer, DAPCU, District Hospital, Nagpur was the Guest of Honour.
The event featured impactful cultural performances by Mohini and team Shiv Mudra Group, that reflected the emotions, struggles, and aspirations of the transgender community, followed by an engaging panel discussion by panelists Nikunj Joshi , Achal Verma, Vidya Kamle, Tanushri Giri from Sarathi Trust, Gayathri Vatsalya, Clinical Psychologist, Dr.Harsha Jharia,CAO, LAD College for Women,Dr.Pooja Pathak, Principal LAD College for Women led the discussion addressing social challenges, mental health, education, and inclusion while Twinkle Thakur played a very impactful role as Moderator.
The speakers shared powerful insights and real-life experiences, leaving the audience deeply moved and more aware.
SAMMAN received an overwhelming response from students, academicians, working professionals, social organisations, and citizens, reinforcing the need for continued conversations and collective action towards building a more inclusive and compassionate society.
