The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Asthayi Aarogya Karmachari Sanghatan, led by workers’ leader Jammu Anand, has announced an indefinite strike beginning February 9. The decision comes in protest against the non-payment of honorariums for the past three months to staff working at Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) under the National Urban Health Campaign (NUHM).
The Sanghatan stated that salary delays have continued for the last 18 months, causing severe mental stress and mounting debt among employees. Workers are struggling to cope with rising petrol prices, house rent and education expenses, often forcing them to borrow money at high interest rates.
The organisation also criticised the administration for overburdening accountants without additional compensation and for failing to implement minimum wage decisions for outsourced staff.
A formal notice has been submitted to Dr Ashwini Nikam, City Programme Administrator, National Urban Health Campaign–Nagpur Municipal Corporation Cell, the Commissioner of Health Services, and the Campaign Director, National Health Mission, Mumbai.
Members of the delegation included Kunda Burde, Neeta Vanve, Ranjana Nagmote, Mamta Nandanwar, Durga Farkase, Suvarna Choudhary, Jayshree Vandekar, Jyotsna, Rupali Raut, Shraddha Kamble, Durga Kodape, Preeti Hatwar, Pooja Kathane, Bhagyashree Sadashiv, Jayshree Tiwari, Yogeshwari Sawalakhe, Aishwarya Narkar, along with a large number of other employees.
Meanwhile, the Sanghatan pointed out that a 15 per cent salary hike has not been implemented since July 2025, Arogya Vardhini allowances remain unpaid since 2024, and incentives under RI, UHND and mobility heads have not been paid.
