Alert railway staff averted a medical emergency aboard the Howrah–CSMT Mail on July 21, 2026, arranging a replacement oxygen cylinder for a 65-year-old passenger before her supply ran out mid-journey.
Sunita, travelling in coach A-2 (berths 31-34) of train number 12809 under PNR 8939316021, required continuous oxygen support for a medical condition. During a routine ticket check after the train left Nagpur, Train Captain and Deputy Chief Ticket Inspector Rajesh Mishra noticed her critical situation and realised her cylinder’s oxygen supply would run out within hours.
Mishra immediately alerted Nagpur Commercial Control, requesting a replacement cylinder at the next stop. With no time to arrange one locally, railway officials coordinated with Raipur Commercial Control, which mobilised its station staff and medical team in advance.
By the time the train reached Raipur, a medical oxygen cylinder was ready and was delivered straight to coach A-2, stabilising Sunita’s oxygen levels and allowing her journey to continue without further incident.
Her family thanked South East Central Railway and Indian Railways for the timely intervention, which the Nagpur Division has praised as an example of prompt decision-making and coordination among its staff.
