The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has thrown up a fresh anomaly in Nagpur, with two long-time voters in Dhanwantari Nagar finding their Booth Level Officer (BLO) listed as based in Dhuhauni, Madhya Pradesh — despite living at the same Nagpur address for over four decades.
Prabhavati Hansraj Gajbhiye and Aruna Hansraj Gajbhiye, a mother-daughter duo whose names appeared in the 2002 electoral roll under the then-East Nagpur assembly constituency (part 333, serial numbers 1367 and 1368), now fall under the South Nagpur constituency following delimitation. They reside in Ward 28 of the municipal corporation.
When family members approached the local BLO for SIR verification and checked the Election Commission’s website, both voters were shown as assigned to BLOs in Dhuhauni, Madhya Pradesh — despite living in the same house, each was assigned a different BLO. One official contacted confirmed he was indeed posted in Madhya Pradesh.
A neighbour, Devrao Kelwadkar, who has voted regularly in Lok Sabha, assembly and civic polls, said his name is missing from the list entirely.
Opposition parties have raised objections over the SIR exercise, citing such instances as evidence of large-scale confusion in the poll machinery. The 2002 roll is meant to serve as the base list for the revision.
