Claiming that excessive smartphone usage is affecting the mental and intellectual abilities of the younger generation, Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil remarked that Gen Z has developed a “chemical locha” due to constant mobile phone use, making it increasingly difficult to communicate with them. He made the remarks while addressing the Kargil Vijay Diwas programme organised by Bhonsala Military School, where he was the chief guest.
Patil said criticism of the police should be accepted as an opportunity for self-improvement rather than resisted. He stressed that policing must evolve with changing times by becoming more transparent, accountable and communicative.
Referring to the impact of excessive mobile phone usage on young people, Patil observed that constant exposure to smartphones is affecting their thinking and concentration, making meaningful communication increasingly difficult.
Highlighting the demanding nature of police service, he said, “Whether it is the police or soldiers guarding the nation’s borders, their duty is a constant challenge. Despite working tirelessly, the police often face criticism, especially in recent days.”
Patil urged both the police force and the younger generation to build mutual trust through open dialogue, understanding and responsible use of technology, emphasizing that stronger engagement between citizens and law enforcement is essential for a healthy democracy.
