A mother and her son from Nagpur lost their lives in a road accident on the Samruddhi Expressway on Sunday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Ashalata Kanbargi and her son Vivekanand Kanbargi, residents of Ram Nagar, Nagpur. The family was returning to Nagpur from Thane in a car bearing registration number MH-05/AX-7612.
According to police, the driver reportedly fell asleep near Channel No. 39/900 on the Samruddhi Expressway, causing the vehicle to lose control and collide with a truck container (MH-46/CL-1556).
The impact of the collision severely damaged the front portion of the car. On receiving information, PSI Dilip Thate and Prakash Chaudhari rushed to the spot along with a rescue team and ambulance.
Ashalata Kanbargi died on the spot, while Vivekanand Kanbargi sustained serious head and limb injuries. He was rushed to Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital at Sawangi Meghe but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Seloo police have registered a case and are investigating the incident further.
