Despite introducing several online and GIS-based services under the state government’s 150-day e-governance reform drive, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) failed to make it to the list of Maharashtra’s top five municipal corporations.
The result has raised concerns within civic circles over the evaluation process and the criteria used to assess digital governance performance.
A senior official from NMC’s Information Technology Department said that only five municipal corporations were shortlisted for the final rankings and that scores were shared only for those selected.
“We have not been informed about the marks given to Nagpur. The evaluation agency neither shared individual scores nor released a comparative scorecard for the remaining corporations,” the official said, adding that the lack of transparency has made it difficult to identify gaps and areas needing improvement.
