To maintain cleanliness across the city, Mayor Neeta Thakre has suggested launching a night-time sanitation drive in the busy Itwari Market area. At a meeting with traders’ associations, the Mayor, along with Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed and Ruling Party Leader Narendra (Balya) Borkar, discussed measures to strengthen sanitation facilities in the market.
Representatives of the Kirana Association, Sarafa Bazaar, Cloth Market and Metal Merchant Association assured their full support for the initiative. Responding to traders’ requests for services similar to those provided in Sitabuldi, officials announced that cleaning operations and waste-collection vehicles will function from midnight to 4 am.
The one-month pilot project will cover important locations such as Marwadi Chowki, Ek Rupya Chowk, Bharat Mata Chowk, Gandhi Putla, Agrasen Chowk, Maskasath and the Grain Market, with special emphasis on late-night cleaning in food market zones. Traders have also been requested not to dump waste on roads and instead hand it over to designated collection vehicles to ensure the success of the initiative.
