With summer approaching, Mayor Nita Thakre on Wednesday directed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) water supply department and Orange City Water (OCW) to ensure higher water pressure and time-bound resolution of complaints related to contaminated water supply.
Chairing a review meeting at the NMC headquarters, Thakre instructed officials to resolve complaints of polluted water within seven days and arrange tanker supply in areas where issues persist. She also ordered immediate correction of fivefold inflated water bills issued to some consumers, warning that failure to rectify them could result in penalties on the company.
Officials informed the meeting that the city has 103 water tanks, including four under the Smart City project, supplying water to residents. Online payment through QR codes has increased from 33% to 48%, and SMS alerts are being sent to consumers once bills are generated.
The mayor further directed action against water leakages using detection machines, illegal domestic and commercial connections, and misuse of domestic connections for commercial purposes such as warehouses and washing centres. She also ordered action against the use of booster (tullu) pumps and suggested opening a bill payment centre in Mhalginagar for residents of the Hudkeshwar-Narsala area.
