Taking serious note of copying incidents during the HSC examinations conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that any examination centre found involved in mass copying during the Class 10 and 12 board exams will face permanent de-recognition.
In response to a paper leak incident, the Nagpur Divisional Board has replaced the entire examination staff at St Ursula High School and Junior College after two Class 12 students were found sharing Chemistry and Physics question papers on WhatsApp groups. Nagpur Divisional Board Chairman Shivling Patwe has directed that sealed question paper packets must not be opened before 11 am. Typically, the sealed packets arrive at centres by 10.30 am and are opened shortly thereafter. Patwe stated that the lapse at St Ursula occurred due to the premature opening of the question paper packets.
Board examination papers are delivered to centres through designated custodians. In Nagpur district, the Class 12 examinations are being conducted at 88 centres in the city and 84 in rural areas.
Meanwhile, during a surprise inspection at an examination centre in Washim, authorities booked 26 college staff members following a mass copying incident in the Physics paper. As many as 581 students were allegedly involved.
A senior State Board official told The Hitavada that such incidents were unexpected despite strict vigilance measures. Following earlier cases reported in Beed, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna, the government has now decided to implement tougher action.
St Ursula High School and Junior College has been designated as the examination centre for 688 Class 12 students from five junior colleges in the city: S.E.S. Junior College, Jawahar Knight Junior College, Islamia Science Junior College, Sandipani Junior College, and St Ursula High School and Junior College.
