Nearly 300 students of Indian Institute of Management Nagpur boycotted their mid-term examination on Tuesday to protest the debarment of 40 first-year students for allegedly violating campus regulations.
According to an institute official, about 75 students from the first- and second-year MBA batches attended a farewell party for seniors on the night of February 21 without prior permission. The students returned to the hostel the next morning, despite being required to be back on campus by 10 pm. They had also not informed their parents about the delay, the official added.
Following the incident, the administration initiated disciplinary proceedings and barred 40 first-year students from appearing for the scheduled mid-term examination.
In response, nearly 300 first-year students, including those debarred, staged a silent protest on campus and abstained from the exam. The official stated that the institute’s director was out of station when the issue arose. The situation has since been resolved, and second-year MBA students appeared for their scheduled end-term examination.
