Tensions flared in Chinchbhavan as residents blocked the main road, accusing a road-work contractor of acting arbitrarily and disrupting daily life by digging up and shutting key access routes without proper planning. The protest erupted after locals alleged that a narrow but crucial connecting road was rendered unusable, forcing school children, office-goers and elderly residents to take long detours.
The area falls within Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ constituency, and residents expressed anger that despite repeated complaints, neither civic officials nor elected representatives intervened effectively. Locals claimed that work frequently slows down or stops midway, leaving roads dug up and hazardous. The immediate trigger for the protest, residents said, was the contractor’s alleged decision to close even the temporary alternate route, bringing movement to a standstill.
Protesters alleged that the Nagpur Municipal Corporation failed to supervise the work adequately and allowed inconvenience to escalate. They demanded immediate restoration of access, a clear timeline for completion, and accountability for what they described as mismanagement of a basic infrastructure project.
The demonstration underlines growing frustration in the locality, with residents warning that unless authorities act swiftly, further agitation could follow.
