Rampant garbage burning and littering have once again been reported at the CPWD Colony in Seminary Hills, even though a garbage collection van regularly services the area. Waste has been found dumped and burnt outside the colony premises, raising concerns about pollution in one of the city’s greenest and most sensitive zones.
The locations outside the colony fall under several Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) identified by Nagpur City Hub. Officials said the colony had earlier been warned against open burning of waste. On Friday, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s NDS wing issued a notice to the CPWD contractor over the violations.

Despite the action against the contractor, questions are being raised about accountability at the official level. Local observers allege that residents continue to litter waste outside designated collection systems, contributing to environmental degradation in Seminary Hills — often referred to as the heart of the city due to its ecological importance.
Civic officials said monitoring will continue and further action may be taken if violations persist. Open burning of garbage not only violates solid waste management norms but also contributes to air pollution and poses health risks to nearby residents.
Residents and environmental activists have urged CPWD authorities to ensure stricter enforcement within the colony to prevent further damage to the area’s fragile ecosystem.
