A major crackdown on fake disability certificates has rattled the Nagpur Zilla Parishad (ZP) after verification revealed irregularities in the disability claims of employees recruited under the reserved quota. The action follows strict orders from senior bureaucrat Tukaram Mundhe, who directed statewide scrutiny of disability certificates amid growing allegations of misuse.
The verification drive uncovered that some employees had secured government jobs using questionable disability certificates, while others were found to have a much lower disability percentage than originally declared. In at least two cases in Nagpur ZP, employees who had earlier claimed more than 40% disability were found during re-examination to have disability levels around 30%, making them ineligible for several benefits meant for persons with disabilities
. The revelation has triggered panic within government offices, as employees appointed under the disability quota now face strict scrutiny. Authorities warned that those found using bogus certificates could lose benefits and face disciplinary action
Officials say the verification drive aims to stop fraud that deprives genuinely disabled people of government jobs and welfare schemes. With the investigation widening across departments, the crackdown is expected to expose more cases of fake disability claims in Maharashtra’s public sector recruitment system.
