A tense scene unfolded at the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court when builder N. Kumar allegedly misbehaved with the bench during a hearing on illegal constructions linked to his projects in Civil Lines. In a shocking moment during the proceedings, the builder reportedly told the court, “Should I commit suicide?”, drawing sharp rebuke from the judges.
The court was hearing a case related to illegal portions of Poonam Tower and Poonam Chambers, where Kumar had earlier given an undertaking that the unauthorised structures would be demolished. However, the builder’s aggressive conduct and remarks during the hearing angered the bench, which recorded the incident in its order and directed that he be removed from the courtroom.
The matter concerns long-standing illegal constructions in Nagpur’s prime Civil Lines area. Despite court directions and repeated undertakings, the demolition of the unauthorised portions has remained stalled.
With delays continuing, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation informed the court that it will now step in and carry out the demolition itself. The episode has once again exposed the scale of illegal construction in Nagpur and the challenges authorities face in enforcing court-ordered action against powerful builders.
