On the occasion of the Amrit Mahotsav year of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, there is a plan to develop as many playgrounds in the city as possible. In this regard, officials from NMC and the Nagpur Improvement Trust will jointly visit all municipal grounds and the grounds transferred to the corporation from NIT. They have been directed to submit detailed information about the current condition, reservation status, area, and location of these grounds. Mayor Nita Thakre also instructed that GIS mapping of all grounds be carried out.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin suggested that a committee be formed to improve the standard of the city’s playgrounds and that an agency with proven excellence at the national level be selected for the work. Ruling party leader Mr. Narendra Borkar proposed that signboards indicating NMC ownership should be installed at municipal grounds as well as those transferred from NIT.
Instructions were also issued to urgently submit proposals for developing basic facilities in 204 gardens within the municipal limits, including walking tracks, water supply arrangements, boundary walls, lawn leveling, toilets, selfie points, yoga sheds, recreation centers, libraries, and other amenities.
It was also directed that boards displaying the name and mobile number of contractors responsible for maintaining ‘Green Gyms’ in the parks be installed.
The Mayor stated that many voluntary organizations install substandard materials in parks or playgrounds without the corporation’s permission, which damages the reputation of the municipal body. Strict instructions were therefore given to monitor such organizations and prevent the installation of any materials without prior permission.
