Acting firmly after a Valentine’s Day night altercation went viral, Zone 2 Police have sealed Raasta Club in Shivaji Nagar for 15 days beginning March 11. The closure follows findings of underage drinking and violations related to parking and regulatory compliance during a detailed inspection of the premises.
The pub falls under the limits of Ambazari Police Station. The action was initiated under the direction of Deputy Commissioner of Police Nityanand Jha, who had ordered a probe after a video of the scuffle surfaced on social media platforms.
Viral Footage Prompts Suo Motu Action
The incident occurred during a Valentine’s Day celebration when a dispute between two groups allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation inside the club. Though no immediate complaint was lodged with the police, the viral circulation of the video drew the attention of senior officers, prompting suo motu action.
Police subsequently issued a notice to the management seeking clarification for not informing authorities about the incident in a timely manner, as required under existing regulations.
Inspection Reveals Violations
During the inquiry, officials reportedly identified instances of minors consuming alcohol and lapses in parking management. Additional compliance concerns were also flagged. Based on these findings, authorities ordered the establishment to remain shut for 15 days as a precautionary and corrective step.
Nightlife Under Scanner Again
The development has once again brought the spotlight on regulation of late-night venues in the city. Earlier, Dabo – The Club and Kitchen had faced similar action over alleged operational violations.
Police officials have reiterated that strict monitoring of pubs and clubs will continue to ensure public safety, adherence to licensing conditions, and accountability in the wake of rising concerns over law and order at nightlife destinations in Nagpur.
