Acting under the ongoing anti-narcotics initiative “Operation Thunder – Let’s Unite for a Drug-Free Society,” Nagpur Police have registered a case against two individuals for allegedly operating Downtown Hookah Parlour illegally in the city.
The कार्रवाई was carried out late on March 14 between 10.40 pm and 11.05 pm at Downtown Hookah Parlour situated on Mount Road in Buti Compound under the limits of Sadar Police Station. The raid followed specific intelligence inputs about unauthorized hookah services being offered at the establishment.
During the inspection, police allegedly found the owner, Gaurav Shriram Bokde (33), a resident of Dnyaneshwar Nagar, Manewada Road, Ajni, along with Paresh Madan Sorte (19) of Lakadganj, serving hookah products containing prohibited tobacco substances to customers without requisite permissions.
Officials stated that the parlour was being run for commercial gain in violation of prevailing tobacco control regulations. Police seized multiple hookah pots, assorted flavoured tobacco products and related equipment collectively valued at Rs 11,400 from the premises.
A case has been registered against the duo under Sections 4(A) and 21(A) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, along with relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Amendment Act, 2018. Further investigation is underway.
