Amid a severe staff crunch with 8,659 posts lying vacant, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar on Tuesday directed officials to immediately initiate the recruitment process. Instructions were also issued to request officers on deputation from the state government.
The shortage of personnel has significantly increased the workload across departments, with thousands of posts remaining unfilled for several years. To address the issue, Dr. Itankar chaired a joint review meeting of the general administration and legal departments.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Nirbhay Jain presented details of the departmental structure and staff adjustments under the new organisational framework. He informed that the NMC has 205 cadres ranging from Class I to Class IV, with a sanctioned strength of 17,981 posts. Of these, only 9,322 positions are currently filled, leaving 8,659 vacant.
It was also noted that the civic body requires 19 officers on deputation from the state government. Discussions were held on initiating direct recruitment for posts under Group A, B, and D categories. The commissioner directed officials to promptly prepare and forward pending proposals related to recruitment and deputation to the state government.
