A cyber fraud case involving ₹2.93 crore has come to light, where scammers lured a victim by promising high returns through share market investments.
According to reports, Rajesh Meghrajani (resident of Chitnavis Layout) works as a technical consultant. On January 20, he was added by unknown individuals to a WhatsApp group named “Axis Security Limited L-18.” The group reportedly had over 50 members, where messages showcasing high profits from share market investments were regularly posted to build trust.
Influenced by these messages, Mehras was convinced about the authenticity of the scheme and decided to invest. Initially, he invested a small amount and even received returns, which further strengthened his confidence. Later, he was encouraged to invest larger sums and was provided with multiple links to transfer money.
Trusting the scheme, Mehras invested significant amounts, even borrowing money from family members and close contacts. Expecting high returns, he reportedly sold his jewellery as well to arrange funds.
Between January 20 and March 5, 2026, he transferred a total of ₹2.93 crore to the fraudsters. However, when he did not receive the promised returns and realized he had been cheated, he approached the authorities.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the cyber fraud network.
