Acting on complaints about drug consumption on footpaths, Bajaj Nagar police have launched a special crackdown and intensified patrolling in affected areas. The operation includes strict surveillance and action against individuals found smoking or consuming narcotic substances on public walkways.
The issue was recently raised by Congress MLA Vikas Thakre, who highlighted the growing problem of drug use and illegal activities along footpaths between Abhyankar Nagar and Bajaj Nagar. Taking serious note, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed officials to take strict action against such activities and ensure accountability of concerned authorities.
Following the directive, Bajaj Nagar police initiated a focused drive against offenders. They also wrote to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation to immediately remove illegal stalls and encroachments from footpaths. In response, the civic body cleared several such structures.
Police have also installed awareness banners in the area, urging citizens to report anti-social activities. According to officials, under preventive action laws, 24 cases were registered in 2025 and two cases so far in 2026, with fines amounting to ?20 lakh collected.
Authorities have appealed to residents to cooperate and share information about illegal activities, while warning that strict action will continue against those violating public safety norms.
