Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Standing Committee Chairperson Shivani Dani-Wakhare and Medical Services & Health Special Committee Chairperson Manisha Atkare visited the Integrated Solid Waste Processing Plant at Bhandewadi to review ongoing operations and assess project progress. Senior corporators Pradeep Pohane and Sharda Barai, along with Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Bhagat, Superintending Engineer Dr. Shweta Banerjee, and Chief Sanitation Officer Gajendra Mahalle, were present during the inspection.
Officials informed that Nagpur generates around 1,300 metric tonnes of waste daily. Currently, 250–300 metric tonnes are being processed through the Susbidi system, while an additional 500 metric tonnes will be treated by Bhumi Green Pvt. Ltd. With daily processing of fresh waste now underway, the formation of new garbage heaps is expected to stop, while legacy waste is also being gradually treated. This is likely to significantly reduce waste accumulation in the Bhandewadi area and free up land.
During the visit, representatives from Bhumi Green Pvt. Ltd., including Vijay Tilekar, Pankaj Pasankar, and Shrikrishna Dixit, briefed the delegation on various stages of the project. Notably, the waste processed by Bhumi Green Energy Envirocare LLP, Pune, will be converted into organic manure and Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF), contributing to sustainable waste management practices.
