Union Minister Nitin Gadkari chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess ongoing development works and address key civic issues in Nagpur. The meeting was attended by Maharashtra Minister and Nagpur Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, along with public representatives and senior officials.
The discussions focused on urban development planning and resolving citizens’ concerns. Key emphasis was placed on collecting zone-wise data of all public-use land owned by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), and Nazul authorities. Plans were also discussed to develop essential infrastructure such as vegetable markets, meat and fish markets, food malls, and designated hawker zones in areas with a population of over one lakh.
The meeting highlighted proposals to develop 200 sports grounds and 200 gardens across the city to strengthen public amenities. A significant discussion was also held on adopting a “Bangladesh Zopadpatti pattern” model to make Nagpur slum-free. Additionally, development works for nearly 4,500 unauthorized layouts on reserved land were reviewed.
Progress of major infrastructure projects, including the Nag River and Pohra River rejuvenation, was examined. Considering the city’s growing population, discussions were held on implementing an underground sewerage system. The status of the water supply project, challenges faced, and corrective measures taken by the administration were also reviewed.
Updates were also taken on projects under AMRUT-2 and AMRUT-3 schemes, the widening and land acquisition of Old Bhandara Road, and the development plan road from MIHAN rehabilitation area in Chinchbhavan to Khapri boundary. The progress of cement road works under phases 1 to 5, including incomplete works, was also discussed.
The meeting further reviewed works undertaken under the Vayoshri scheme, a proposal to provide e-rickshaws to eligible differently-abled beneficiaries, and development proposals under the Urban Dalit Settlement Scheme.
Budgetary and financial matters related to NMC and NIT were also deliberated, with a focus on ensuring coordinated, sustainable, and citizen-centric development of Nagpur.
