In a major crackdown on narcotics under the ongoing “Operation Thunder,” the Nagpur Police Crime Branch Unit 5 has exposed a drug distribution network and arrested a woman allegedly involved in supplying ganja across the city.
The breakthrough came late on March 28, when Crime Branch officials, on routine night patrol under the Kalamna Police Station limits, intercepted a suspicious individual near Mohanlal Vajpayee Nagar, close to a plastic factory. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Tejpratap Nekpratap Shahu, a resident of Kalamna, was found seated on a blue Activa scooter.
During a search conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, police recovered 961 grams of ganja concealed inside the scooter’s storage compartment. The contraband, estimated to be worth ₹24,025, was packed in a white plastic bag secured with blue tape. Officers also seized the scooter (MH-49 BP-1650) and a Redmi mobile phone, taking the total value of confiscated items to ₹84,025.
Following his arrest, Shahu reportedly confessed during interrogation that he had sourced the ganja from Saloni Ranveersingh Chaudhary (20), a resident of Prem Nagar in Shantinagar. Based on this information, a case was registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, including Sections 8(c), 20(b), 20(b)(ii), and 29, at Kalamna Police Station.
Acting swiftly on the lead, Crime Branch Unit 5 launched a search operation and successfully apprehended Saloni Chaudhary on March 29 from the Shantinagar area. During questioning, she allegedly revealed that the narcotics were supplied to her by a man identified as Farukh, indicating the presence of a broader drug supply chain.
The accused woman has since been handed over to Kalamna Police for further investigation. Authorities are now working to trace additional links in the network and identify other individuals involved in the illegal drug trade.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior officials from the Nagpur Police Commissionerate, with Inspector Vinayak Golhe and his team playing a crucial role in executing the action.
Police officials have reiterated their commitment to intensifying anti-narcotics efforts in the city and dismantling drug networks operating in and around Nagpur.
