The deceased has been identified as Aryan Chandrashekhar Patel (16), a resident of Siddiqui Layout in the Godhani area of Nagpur.
According to police officials, Aryan had gone to the quarry with a friend for a swim during a weekend outing. While in the water, he reportedly ventured into a deeper section of the quarry and accidentally drowned.
After receiving information about the incident, police personnel, along with local residents, rushed to the spot and launched a rescue effort. The boy was later pulled out of the water and sent to Mayo Hospital for medico-legal examination.
Based on a complaint filed by his father, Chandrashekhar Sheshrao Patel (39), the Gittikhadan Police have registered a case of accidental death. The investigation is currently being handled by Assistant Sub-Inspector Chaudkhan Pathan.
Authorities have reiterated their warning to citizens, especially youngsters, to stay away from abandoned quarries and unsafe water bodies, which often pose serious risks due to unpredictable depth and lack of safety measures.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of swimming in unregulated and hazardous locations around Nagpur.
