After a long wait of several months, air connectivity between Nagpur and Nanded resumed on Tuesday. Under the regional connectivity scheme, the service has been restarted with five flights a week, operating from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur, to Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Airport, Nanded.
However, the response on the first day remained lukewarm. The 88-seater aircraft operated with significantly low passenger occupancy. Only around 36 passengers traveled on the inaugural flights across both sectors. Reports indicate that just about 30 passengers flew from Nanded to Nagpur, while a similarly low number traveled in the return direction, leaving nearly half the seats vacant.
Passengers highlighted that the service would greatly benefit those traveling between the two cities, especially reducing travel time from several hours by road or rail to just around 50 minutes by air. Some travelers also noted that the airfare, approximately Rs 4,100, is relatively reasonable compared to other routes, making it a convenient option.
In addition, the Nagpur–Nanded route is being seen as an alternative connectivity link for passengers traveling to Goa via connecting flights, potentially improving travel convenience in the coming days.
Despite the low turnout on day one, authorities and airline operators remain optimistic that passenger numbers will increase as awareness grows and demand stabilizes.
