In a surprising development, the Laxminagar Zone of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has proposed repairs for just 85.16 square meters of potholes, raising serious questions over administrative efficiency and ground-level assessment. The proposal has drawn criticism, especially as multiple complaints have been raised from various parts of the zone regarding poor road conditions.
According to sources, despite issuing three separate letters to the concerned departments, officials failed to respond adequately. The proposal was eventually submitted after repeated follow-ups, but the limited scope of work has sparked concerns. Residents and public representatives allege that the proposal does not reflect the actual condition of roads, particularly in areas like Prabhag 16, 36, 37, and 38, where potholes are widespread.
Officials from the hotmix department reportedly prepared estimates based on inputs received from zone offices. However, questions are being raised over the accuracy of these estimates. As per norms, a single vehicle can typically repair around 120 square meters of potholes, making the Laxminagar proposal appear disproportionately low.
Meanwhile, other zones have submitted significantly larger proposals. For instance, Dharampeth Zone has proposed repairs covering over 1,000 sq m, while zones like Hanuman Nagar, Nehru Nagar, and Gandhibagh have reported much higher figures. The total proposed pothole repair area across zones stands at over 12,800 sq m, further highlighting the anomaly in Laxminagar’s data.
Civic officials claim that all pothole repairs will be completed within a week. However, given the discrepancy in reported figures, concerns remain about whether the actual road conditions are being addressed effectively.
The issue has once again brought the spotlight on lack of coordination, delayed response, and questionable data reporting within the municipal administration.
