60 cabs ready for rollout; operations to commence after RTO issues NOCs
Passengers at Nagpur Railway Station will have to wait a little longer for app-based cab services, as the operator is yet to obtain the mandatory no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Regional Transport Office (RTO), officials said.
The railway administration had awarded the tender for operating cab services at the station to BharatCabs a few months ago. However, the services have not commenced due to pending regulatory clearance.
Senior divisional commercial manager Aman Mittal said the documentation process is almost complete, but the delay is due to the pending NOC from the RTO.
“The operators have not yet received the NOC from the RTO for running the cabs, and that is delaying the launch of the service. Apart from that, all documentation and verification processes have been completed,” he said.
Mittal added that the railway authorities have already prepared the designated space for the service on the west side of the station premises.
“The operator is prepared to start operations with around 60 cabs. As soon as the RTO issues the NOC, the services can begin immediately,” he said.
According to Mittal, discussions between the cab operator and RTO officials are underway, and the railway administration expects the clearance to be issued soon.
“We are hopeful that the NOC will be issued by next week, after which the services can start without further delay,” he said.
Meanwhile, the railway station is also witnessing an ongoing dispute between drivers operating from the prepaid auto booth and those parking their autorickshaws outside the station premises along the roadside, adding to commuter inconvenience.
Altaf Ansari, president of the Prepaid Auto Union, alleged that autos stationed outside the premises often block entry points and even the main gate of the railway station. “Many of these drivers deliberately intercept passengers, discourage them from using prepaid auto services and obstruct their way. This also affects traffic movement inside the station premises,” he said.
Ansari added that the issue has been raised with the authorities several times, but no effective action has been taken so far. According to him, the situation continues to create congestion and inconvenience for passengers arriving at the station.
