Vidarbha’s first Gen Z-themed post office was inaugurated on Thursday at the VRCE post office located within the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, introducing a new format of postal services on a student campus.
Designed to suit Gen Z preferences, the upgraded facility blends tech-enabled postal and financial services with a modern, interactive setup. A seamless digital interface has been introduced to make transactions easier and enhance user experience. The VNIT centre is the third such revamped post office in Maharashtra, and the first in Nagpur and Vidarbha to adopt a Gen Z-centric model.
Going beyond conventional services, the centre offers a campus-friendly environment where students can spend time while accessing postal facilities. Amenities such as free Wi-Fi, a small library, carrom and chess boards, and a coffee vending machine have been added to create a relaxed and engaging space.
Postal officials said the initiative aims to familiarise students with post office services while making the space relevant to their lifestyle. The combination of essential services and recreational elements is expected to boost footfall and encourage young users to explore postal and financial offerings.
The facility has been developed under the Maharashtra Postal Circle’s Next Generation (N-GEN) initiative, which focuses on modernising post offices with upgraded infrastructure, digital systems, and improved customer interfaces.
The centre was inaugurated by VNIT registrar Sachin Jagdale and director Prem Lal Patel, along with Director of Postal Services, Nagpur Region, Dr Sudhir Jakhere. Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Nagpur City Division, DLRSJ Prasuna Reddy, and Assistant Director Postal Services, Nagpur Regional Office, Jayant Daoo, were also present.
Officials said the initiative is part of efforts to make postal services more accessible, user-friendly, and future-ready, especially for a generation inclined towards digital platforms, while continuing to serve as essential public service centres.
