In a major push for urban expansion and future-ready planning, the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority has initiated work on the ambitious ‘New Nagpur’ project. Envisioned as a next-generation urban hub, the development will span around 1,710 acres, making it one of the largest planned urban initiatives in the region.
To take the project forward, NMRDA has issued an e-tender to appoint a consultant who will prepare the blueprint and oversee execution. The authority aims to develop ‘New Nagpur’ as a high-tech, globally competitive city designed to attract start-ups, MSMEs, technology firms and international service providers. Planned as an integrated smart city, the project will feature advanced infrastructure and underground civic utilities to ensure efficient and sustainable services.
Officials believe the initiative will significantly strengthen Nagpur’s position as a key economic and industrial hub in Central India. The development is expected to function as a modern business district, offering world-class infrastructure for commerce, innovation and industry.

Nagpur already hosts major institutions like Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Management Nagpur, Indian Institute of Information Technology Nagpur and All India Institute of Medical Sciences Nagpur, along with over 275 educational institutions, making it a strong candidate for a large-scale knowledge and innovation hub.
