With the onset of the summer vacation season, railway ticket bookings from Nagpur to major cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur and Solapur have surged sharply. The spike in demand has led to long waiting lists and “regret” status on several trains.
Advance bookings for June opened at the start of April, and within the first week, thousands of tickets were booked. According to Nagpur Railway Division officials, most trains on these busy routes are now either in Waiting List (WL) or Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) status on the IRCTC website.
Heavy demand during summer vacations
As schools and colleges in Nagpur close for summer holidays, students, families and working professionals are travelling in large numbers to cities like Mumbai and Pune—for vacations, visiting relatives or returning home. At the same time, return travel from Mumbai and Pune to Nagpur has also increased significantly.
Trains such as:
- 12105 Vidarbha Express (Nagpur–Mumbai)
- 12810 Howrah–Mumbai Mail
- 12136 Nagpur–Pune Express
- Kolhapur-bound trains
are already booked up to 90% capacity or more, with similar trends on return routes.
Regret status on key dates
Several trains in April and May have reached “regret” status, meaning no tickets are available—especially in AC and sleeper classes.
- April 18: Hatia–Pune Express, Azad Hind Express, Nagpur–Pune SF Express, Pune Duronto Express (AC classes fully booked)
- May 1–2: Pune Humsafar Express, Gitanjali Express, Shalimar–LTT Express, CSMT Duronto Express—all showing no availability or “regret” status in multiple classes
No additional coaches yet
Although railway authorities have indicated plans to run special trains during the peak summer period, there has been no official confirmation on additional coaches or new services so far, making it difficult for passengers to secure confirmed tickets.
Passenger advisory
Travellers are advised to:
- Book tickets as early as possible
- Consider alternate travel dates
- Explore other options such as buses or flights if tickets are unavailable
Nagpur routes typically witness heavy summer traffic, but this year the rush has begun unusually early, causing inconvenience to many passengers.
