Nagpur district is witnessing a gradual shift towards cleaner mobility, with a steady rise in the number of electric vehicles (EVs). In a bid to support this transition, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has established a network of 307 public EV charging stations across the district.
As per official data, nearly 49,565 electric vehicles are currently registered in Nagpur district. With the expansion of charging infrastructure, EV users now have improved access to fast-charging facilities, both at home and during travel or emergencies.
The state government has designated MSEDCL as the nodal agency under its electric vehicle policy, assigning it the responsibility of promoting EV adoption in key cities, including Nagpur, to help reduce pollution levels.
In line with this mandate, MSEDCL is prioritising power connections for EV charging stations and offering technical support to private players interested in setting up such facilities, alongside developing its own network.
Within urban areas, Mahal has the highest number of charging stations at 84, followed by Congress Nagar (66), Civil Lines (45), Butibori (40) and Gandhibagh (17). In rural regions, Mouda leads with 26 stations, followed by Saoner (16), Katol (7) and Umred (6).
To enhance user convenience, MSEDCL has also launched the ‘PowerUp EV’ mobile application, allowing users to locate nearby charging stations, check real-time availability, and book slots in advance.
Officials added that the initiative is also creating opportunities for entrepreneurs, with a simplified application process for setting up charging stations. Private firms, petroleum companies, housing societies and individual users are being encouraged to participate, with MSEDCL providing necessary technical assistance.
