In a significant step towards integrating technology into education, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated an Artificial Intelligence (AI) training program for its school teachers. The initiative aims to equip educators with modern digital skills and enhance their teaching methodologies in line with the evolving technological landscape.
The training program, organized by Robotex India, is being conducted at the Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee E-Library under the initiative “Establishment of Microsoft Educator AI Academy for Skilling and Economic Empowerment (EASE)” and the designation of Nagpur as a regional hub. Additional Municipal Commissioner Vaishnavi B. visited the session on Saturday and encouraged teachers to actively adopt AI tools in their teaching practices to ensure students remain competitive in the digital age.
Speaking on the occasion, Vaishnavi B. emphasized that AI training presents a valuable opportunity for teachers to upgrade their knowledge and contribute to students’ academic growth. She urged educators to embrace emerging technologies and guide students effectively in navigating the digital world.
Education Committee Chairperson Santoshdevi Laddha also visited the training session and interacted with participants. The program was attended by Education Officer Madhuri Katkar, School Inspector Prashant Tembhurne, headmasters, teachers, and representatives from Robotex India, including Revati Phanse and Mohit Wakode.
Focus on Practical AI Tools
The training includes hands-on sessions on Generative AI tools and Microsoft Copilot, along with practical applications such as lesson planning, administrative efficiency, and digital content creation. Teachers are also being trained in using tools like ChatGPT, Microsoft Word with AI integration, understanding AI bias, cybersecurity risks, and applying AI in teaching methodologies.
Additionally, sessions cover practical tasks such as managing student attendance, calculating result percentages, and basic laptop handling skills. The initiative is expected to significantly reduce administrative workload for teachers and enable them to create engaging and high-quality educational content in less time.
The program is seen as a crucial step toward making NMC schools more technology-driven and improving the overall quality of education.
