The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has announced a 36-hour water supply shutdown across several parts of the city on April 7 and 8, affecting nearly one-third of the population. The shutdown will begin at 10 am on April 7 and continue till 10 pm on April 8.
The disruption is being undertaken to carry out essential maintenance work at the Pench I, II, III, and IV water treatment plants. In addition, a valve will be installed on the 900 mm diameter feeder main near Sadar Fruit Market under the AMRUT project.Officials stated that the prolonged shutdown may lead to a significant water shortage for both households and commercial establishments.
Even after the supply resumes, normal distribution may take additional time as elevated service reservoirs (ESRs) will need to be refilled.Several areas under Laxmi Nagar, Dharampeth, Hanuman Nagar, Dhantoli, Nehru Nagar, Gandhibagh, Satranjipura, Ashi Nagar, and Mangalwari zones will face disruption in water supply.
Citizens in the affected areas have been advised to store adequate water in advance and use it judiciously during the shutdown period.
